“Salt” has been designed, printed and bound by the artist. The ideas and materials used in creating this book are closely linked to Gandhi and his beliefs in village arts and crafts: making objects by hand that have longevity, and born out of dedication and hard work. The evidence of production by hand is an integral part of the design.
Images for the project were created using a large format (4×5) Wista camera over a period of two years.
Print Type: Giclee print on Hahnemuhle German Etching Paper 310 gsm

Khadi: All the cloth in the book is khadi (hand-spun cotton), commissioned by the artist from the great grandchildren of Ramgidada and his wife Gangben who in 1918 taught Gandhi to weave on his return from South Africa. Ramgidada established a weaving center at Sabarmati ashram in Ahmedabad on the request of Gandhi who regarded weaving khadi as a way of life.
